Westpac Retail Program of Works

Delivering a national retail expansion and refresh program for Westpac.

In 2012, Westpac began developing a program for designing and rolling out its retail “branches of the future”. Over the next few years, the program took shape and became known as the Bank Now program.

The new branches are designed to offer a more open and flexible layout, maximising front-of-house space with new digital technology including 24/7 self-service lobbies, iPads, digital marketing, video conferencing, Wi-Fi, touch screens and teller cash recyclers.

Westpac turned to its longstanding and trusted partner, Bureau Veritas, to manage the delivery of the new Bank Now branches program. Our team also supported Westpac’s transition from a traditional project-by-project approach to an integrated all-in-one delivery model. To deliver this, Bureau Veritas successfully partnered with construction company FDC to refurbish and relocate branches around Australia using the integrated model.

From feasibility studies to strategic planning, design development and stakeholder management, Bureau Veritas provided a one-stop-shop for Westpac to access specialist, front-end project management and top-tier interior construction skills. All up, our team delivered more than 150 projects throughout Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.

Bureau Veritas and Westpac have a relationship built on trust and ongoing performance that stretches 25 years. More recently, Bureau Veritas have managed the branch refurbishment program of works for us. This has included delivering over 100 separate projects across all areas of Australia. Their ability to manage a program of this scale and balance the demands of delivering multiple, concurrent and complex projects has been exceptional.
