Sydney Olympic Park Overlay

Sydney Olympic Games 2000

Following on from Bureau Veritas' successful project management of the Sydney Showground, we were commissioned to manage the Olympic overlay works for the Pavilions, Baseball stadium and northern precinct common domain works that form part of the Showground facilities.

During the Olympic Games, the venues will host a large number of Olympic sports including:

  • Baseball
  • Modern Pentathlon
  • Volleyball
  • Handball
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics

During the Paralympic Games, the venues hosted seven out of the 18 sports and were the most extensively used venue for the second biggest event held in Australia. The overlay works included the building of a 9,000 m2 industrial building to house all the back of house facilities and the provision of extensive temporary works including seating, portable buildings, sports floors, lighting, power and air conditioning systems. Bureau Veritas also provided extensive technology infrastructure to support broadcasting, press and results compilation.

The majority of work was completed in a 10 week period and successfully handed over to the Sydney 2000 operations team in early August. Bureau Veritas' commission extended to providing ongoing site management support during the Olympic Games and Paralympics and the management of the bump-out to return the facilities to their permanent use.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
