Olympic Sailing Shore Base

Olympic Sailing Shore Base

Sydney Olympic Games 2000

In December 1997, Bureau Veritas had 9 months to deliver a new marina and upgrade of existing facilities at Rushcutters Bay, in time for the first Olympic Test Sailing Event in September 1998. Aware of our ability to deliver, the Olympic Co-Ordination Authority appointed Bureau Veritas to project manage the upgrade. By early September over 350 international competitors, 600 officials and eight classes of boats were using the 144 berth marina, launching pontoons and refurbished facilities.

As the first Olympic Test Event, the OSSB project was heralded as a major success by the Olympic Co-Ordination and Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. Our dual role as project manager and site manager for the temporary facilities (overlay) continued for the 1999 Test Event and for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
