Newcastle Grammar School Redevelopment

Major transformation at local school to build a contemporary world class facility.

Newcastle Grammar School is the leading co-educational independent school in the Hunter Region, with a long history of academic excellence. Established in 1859, the school is spread across two campuses and caters to over 1,000 students and 150 staff members. A masterplan has been developed for the Park Campus with Stage 1 involving construction of a new three-storey building, kiss and drop driveway, and building refurbishments to create new classrooms, flexible learning spaces and breakout areas to create additional learning opportunities for students.

The Stage 1 project increased the student capacity at the Park Campus to 480 students, allowing for the relocation of Years 5 and 6 back to Park Campus.

Bureau Veritas was engaged by Newcastle Grammar School to provide Project Delivery services for the redevelopment project. Stage 1 of the Masterplan included the new building along Union Street with a ground floor outdoor learning area which will also be used as a play space. In addition, there is a covered rooftop play area.

Construction of the Stage 1 works commenced in September 2023, and the new learning spaces opened to students in May 2025.
