The Glen for Women

Building a leading culturally appropriate rehabilitation facility for Aboriginal women in NSW.

The Glen for Women, based on the NSW Central Coast, is a service providing drug and alcohol rehabilitation opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous women from all over NSW. Established in 1994, the facility is now widely regarded as a leader in culturally appropriate rehabilitation.

The Glen received $9m in funding to address the growing number of Aboriginal women in NSW with drug and alcohol problems to build and operate a purpose-built women's rehabilitation facility. With these funds, the organisation aims to mirror the success of The Glen for Men by offering the same services in rehabilitation to Indigenous and non-Indigenous women.

The Glen engaged Bureau Veritas to provide feasibility assessments, site analysis, design and construction management, and project management. Our team provided our services pro-bono, including small maintenance projects for the men's centre, and established an all-female project team being mindful of the sensitivities of the facility's end-users.

The Glen for Women was completed in 2021 and is a contemporary 20-bed residential centre, with a gymnasium, common room and laundry facilities. We're proud to be making a difference in the community through our work on the first Aboriginal Community controlled, culturally responsible, and evidence-based rehabilitation centre for women in NSW.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
