Transmission lines

Western Renewables Link

Connecting Victoria to cleaner and more sustainable energy.

The Western Renewables Link is a proposed new 190km overhead high-voltage transmission line that will carry renewable energy from western Victoria to Melbourne’s north west. The project is being undertaken by AusNet Services, a large and diversified Australian energy network business.

The project includes a 220kV double circuit overhead line from Bulgana to a new terminal station north of Ballarat. In addition, a 500kV double circuit overhead line from the new terminal station at Ballarat will connect to a new terminal station at Sydenham.

Bureau Veritas was appointed by AusNet Services to provide commercial management and project control services to the Western Renewables Link project. The role covered Project Management Office (PMO) modelling, environmental effects statement approvals, land acquisition planning, procurement and contracting strategies, and resource management services.

Our team established a fully integrated project and construction management function alongside the existing AusNet Services project delivery team. This included the implementation of a project management platform and digital reporting system and the development of program-wide controls to manage scheduling, cost, resources, and risk.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
