Ramada Hotel, Parramatta

Paving the way for innovative and value-for-money hotels in New South Wales.

The construction of the Ramada Hotel, Parramatta was described as a “landmark achievement” by the developers, Wyndham Worldwide (formerly Ramada International) and Pacific Rim Leisure. The developers engaged with Bureau Veritas due to our expertise in project management to ensure a successful completion of the $28.2 million hotel.

The 188 room Australian prototype hotel paved the way for the construction for several others in key metropolitan and regional areas for Ramada International. Our team managed the construction of the new business-style hotel after initial cost estimates were too high for the feasibility to succeed.

Executive Chairman of Bureau Veritas at the time, John Taylor, said it was necessary to appraise every aspect of the undertaking in search of savings. He attributed the project’s success to economies in building costs and the contractual definition of responsibilities of all participants.

The hotel was completed in June 1991 at the construction cost of $85,000 per room, some $35,000 less than the accepted industry “norm”.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
