ANZ 839 Collins Street

ANZ 839 Collins St Melbourne

Designing and delivering a modern workplace environment for ANZ in Melbourne.

ANZ is one of Australia’s major banks, and a leader in contemporary workplace design. When the opportunity arose to consolidate its workforce from separate locations in Melbourne, ANZ wanted to set a new standard for best practice design. Lendlease gave ANZ the option to become an anchor tenant of the $430 million Docklands Tower, directly beside its existing headquarters.

Through previous experience working with ANZ on its Docklands HQ project, Bureau Veritas was appointed to plan and project manage the commercial fit-out. Our property specialists were experienced negotiators and helped ANZ navigate the unusual step of signing an agreement before a detailed design brief was in place, to avoid penalties. The team advised ANZ to split the tenancy into four leases to allow for future staged contracts, which included alternative options to connect to its existing headquarters and other terms.

In the design phase, our team worked closely with tenant and building design teams on modifications, conducted a complex review, managed stakeholder engagement and performed well against time, cost and quality outcomes.

Over a 16-week delivery phase, Bureau Veritas managed the 26,500sqm fit-out working with custom reconfigurable furniture co-developed by ANZ and Zenith Interiors. During construction, the business requirements for ANZ shifted from the original agreement, requiring a redesign. Our team successfully managed a high number of stakeholders throughout this complicated process and created an interactive program to optimise scheduling and resourcing to allow for easier negotiations with suppliers.

Note: APP Corporation Pty Limited (The APP Group) was initially contracted for this project. The APP Group was acquired by Bureau Veritas in December 2024.
